Launch of online training modules
The Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing is pleased to launch 4 new online training modules on inclusive service provision. These short modules are free to download and provide an overview of the Inclusive Service Standards together with ideas on how these can be adopted by aged care services.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Lisa Tribuzio as the new Manager, Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing. Lisa brings 20 years' experience working in a range of sectors having held roles including Assistant Director for Inclusion strategies for the National Disability Insurance Agency and Diversity Advisor for the Hume Whittlesea Primary Care Partnership overseeing diversity planning and practice in Melbourne’s North Metro region for CHSP and HACC-PYP providers, She has also undertaken work in Egypt for the Centre for Intercultural Dialogue in Cairo.
Lisa said of her appointment, “I aim to actively listen, develop constructive relationships focusing on the needs of the community, and taping into empathy in a changing and overstretched aged care sector. Some of my key objectives in taking on this role are to build on the strong foundations already in place and to be proactive in creating new opportunities to journey together towards more inclusive and culturally safe practice and workplaces”.

Multilingual Videos
The Victorian Department of Health and Human Services has launched a series of translated videos on the new rules regarding the use of masks in Victoria.
The videos have been produced in 15 languages.

Older Persons COVID-19 Support Line
The new Older Persons COVID-19 Support Line provides information, support and connection older Australians and their families, friends and carers.
Callers can ask to be connected to TIS National interpreting services if they would like to speak with the support line in a language other than English.
This service is an initiative of the Commonwealth Department of Health - FREECALL 1800 171 866.

Managing the COVID-19 Reality
The Partners in Culturally Appropriate Care (PICAC) Alliance has produced a webinar about meeting the needs of older people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The webinar features examples of good practice from a range of aged care providers across Australia.

Multilingual COVID-19 screening questions
Bolton Clarke has developed audio recordings of COVID-19 screening questions in 25 languages.
The recordings are bi-lingual (in English and the other language) and can be downloaded for free from the Bolton Clarke website.

Multicultural Exchange Hub for Ageing
The Multicultural Exchange Hub for Ageing provides information and resources regarding Commonwealth Government CHSP funded Multicultural Access Programs and CALD Sector Support and Development Programs.
The aim of the Hub is to facilitate opportunities for collaboration between aged care stakeholders to develop multicultural aged care strategies which are innovative, flexible and timely.

Be Connected Grants
The Commonwealth Government is offering grants through the Be Connected program to support older people in their communities to embrace digital technology across Australia.
Applying for the grant online is an easy process and takes less than 15 minutes to complete.

Congratulations MACS!
MACS successful visitor’s pods continue to receive widespread global media coverage including CEO Joy Leggo being nominated as the Australian representative on the international panel of the UNESCO Cities of Design event held in Lithuania which explored the role design has played during times of crisis, and its powerful role in helping restart the world following the COVID-19 epidemic.

Summary of Research Findings
Monash University has released a summary of findings of the Primary Health and Aged Care Translation and Interpreting Services (PRACTIS) study. The research aimed to evaluate the relationship between communication barriers and unplanned emergency department transfers for residents with limited English proficiency and explore residents’ experiences in communication with staff.
